Chili Cook off St. Tim's Mens Club

The energy was high at St. Tim’s Men’s Club on the evening of October 6th, as over 60 members gathered for a highly anticipated event. The night promised a deep dive into the seismic shifts occurring in college football, followed by the hotly contested and highly enjoyed Chili Cook-off. The fantastic turnout proved once again that nothing brings the club together like candid sports talk and comfort food.

The spotlight of the evening was a dynamic discussion led by local sports writer Leo Haggerty and former Sun Conference Commissioner Mark Pope.    They took the audience through a detailed and frank breakdown of how Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) legislation and the Transfer Portal are fundamentally reshaping the college football landscape. Haggerty and Pope didn’t shy away from the hard truths, emphasizing just how quickly the “rules of the game” are changing, moving beyond simple loyalty to become a fast-paced business of talent acquisition and brand management. Their insights sparked lively debate and provided critical context for understanding this new, volatile era of the sport.

Before the interesting conversation, the great Chili Cook-off filled us up. With over 60 attendees sampling the various entries, the competition was fierce, but the ultimate result was universal enjoyment. From smoky chipotle blends to traditional beef chili, every bowl was a hit, offering the perfect flavorful counterpoint to the evening’s enlightening discussion. Congratulations to all the chefs who participated—you truly delivered!

Thank you to Leo Haggerty and Mark Pope for their engaging and timely presentation, and to all the members who attended and contributed their culinary creations. We look forward to seeing everyone at our next gathering!
